Web Speed Tests

Free browser-based speed tests for your internet connection and your typing.

  • Run the Internet Speed Test to measure download speed, upload speed, ping and jitter.
  • Run the Typing Speed Test to measure your words per minute and accuracy.

Both tools run entirely in your browser. There is nothing to install, no sign-up, and no ads in the test area. Results appear instantly.

Internet Speed Test

An internet speed test (also called a wifi speed test or broadband speed test) is the fastest way to check what your connection is actually delivering right now. The test downloads and uploads a controlled volume of data and reports four numbers: download speed, upload speed, ping (latency) and jitter.

Use it to verify that your ISP is delivering the speeds you pay for, to diagnose a slow connection, or to compare wifi against a wired ethernet link.

Typing Speed Test

The typing speed test measures how fast and how accurately you type, in real words per minute (WPM). You type a passage of normal English text; the test tracks correct characters, errors, and time elapsed, then reports your WPM and accuracy at the end.

Use it to benchmark your typing for a job application, to track improvement during touch-typing practice, or just to see how you stack up against the global average of around 40–45 WPM.

Pick a duration that suits you. The 5-minute test gives the most reliable score.

How accurate are these tests?

Both tests are designed to give a realistic snapshot, not a marketing number. The internet speed test transfers actual data over your connection to a server — no synthetic estimates — and the typing test scores you on the same English text whether you take it once or fifty times, so your scores are directly comparable over time.

For the most reliable internet result, close other apps that use the network and run the test twice. For the most reliable typing result, take the 5-minute or 10-minute version: the longer the sample, the less luck affects the score.

What should I do with my results?

If your download speed is well below what your ISP advertises (under about 60% of the headline number), restart your router and try again on a wired connection. Persistent shortfalls are worth raising with your provider.

If your ping or jitter is high, the cause is usually wifi interference, network congestion, or distance from the router rather than your subscription tier.

If your WPM is below 40, regular five-minute practice sessions are the single most effective way to improve. Most learners gain 5–10 WPM in the first month of daily practice.
